Online LINC Classes Begin February 15
Now is your chance to curl up with your laptop in your pajamas with a cup of your favorite beverage and go to school! LINC online courses are designed for busy working professionals who are looking for courses that will help them in the classroom. Each of our LINC online courses is designed to help you create curriculum or gather resources that will help you in the classroom or for other courses you might be taking. They are asynchronous which means you can log in at any time during each week of the course and complete that weeks modules. You set your own class schedule. So avoid the drive and freeway traffic and try a LINC online course.

Courses are $17 per unit plus a one time per quarter registration fee of $11 for California residents.

1. Teaching Science Using Online Bay Area Museum Resources LINC 228.01W
The Bay Area has a wealth of science-technology museums and youth
museums which have over $1 billion of assets for teaching and informal learning of science, math, engineerging/design and technology. Based on a pilot project called the Bay Area Science Museum Learning Collaboratory funded initially by the Hewlett Foundation, this project will explore
how these resources can be aligned with California science curriculum standards and provide a powerful complementary resource to textbooks for improving teaching and learning of science. Examples will be drawn from the Collaboratory's current 6th grade content, and students will create and use a special Science Museum Webquest as a project in their classrooms.

2. Searching and Researching the Internet LINC 208.01W
Are you a Web surfer who would like to make more efficient use of the Internet? This is an intermediate to advanced course for teachers and administrators who already used the Internet for personal research and in their classrooms and who are looking for ways to better integrate the Internet into their curriculum. The emphasis will be on using advanced search techniques that incorporate critical thinking, essential questions, and inquiry based learning in order to narrow searches, explore search engines, evaluate Web sites, and understand copyright and citation documentation. You will create a bookmark list, Internet Treasure Hunt or WebQuest to use with your students.

3. Middle School Reading Strategies LINC 225.02W
This course will explore research-based reading strategies for middle school. Learn about research on reading and the adolescent learner, the workshop model of instruction in a "50 minute world", and new literacies students of today are faced with, among other topics. Many middle school teachers think of themselves as content experts. We know that students who do not learn to read will have difficulty mastering academic content; therefore it is imperative to continue teaching students to read as they move through middle school. Learning to read and mastering reading is a continuous process through adulthood, especially in this day where our text structures, resources, and genres have changed. Learn how to help students become efficient readers and information processors in all content areas.

4. Integrating Technology Projects Using Online Collaboration Tools LINC 214.01W
Collaboration is a fundamental asic skill of learning and work in the 21st century. This course will explore some different kinds of collaborative technologies using the Internet and web--and how these can be integrated with curriculum and student projects to help provide students with experience n both effective communication and learning using new media, as well as providing teachers tools for planning and assessing collaborative student projects. Two special web-based "Collaboratories' will be used as examples: Acme Animation Online, a global (web-based) learning community (http://www.acmeanimation.org, and the Bay Area Science (Museum) Education Collaboratory (http://www.designworlds, com/Hewlett/BA_ScienceCollab/index.html), a dynamic resource for parents and teachers who want to use science-technology museum resources for beter science learning.

10. Choosing the Best Multimedia for Your Project LINC 222.01W
We are often asked, "Which multimedia application should I use?"
Have you ever wondered or asked which multimedia application is best for the project you want to do with your students? This online course is a MUST for anyone doing using multimedia with their students. It will give you a knowledgeable overview of the pros and cons of several software applications. It includes choosing applications that would make the students go more in depth in content and develop enduring understanding of academic content. You will examine projects and which applications were used. Applications such as Inspiration, Photoshop, MovieWorks, HyperStudio, PowerPoint, and Creator will be examined and explored. The course is not meant to be an in depth training on the applications, but more about what one can do with those applications in the K-12 classroom. During the face-to-face session you will see student projects completed in a variety of software applications, and get the opportunity to sample hands-on several software applications.
