Instructor: Laura Silberstein

Save hours of time and become a power user by mastering Microsoft Word's Merge command to create form letters and printed labels for everything.

Creating mailing labels in Word is easy -- you don't even need a database file (or Excel spreadsheet) to create a whole roster's worth of mailing labels. You will learn how to do this completely within Microsoft Word, as well as how to import an Excel database records to create the mailing labels. No prior experience with Excel is necessary!

We will also show you how to make class rosters into tables with matching rows of student phone numbers, parent names, and/or addresses using Word's powerful "Convert Text to Table" command. You will learn how to copy and paste these Word tables into Excel spreadsheet tables to create easy attendance records and student grade tables. (Excel can tally scores, calculate averages, and assign letter grades for you.) Then we'll mine this data to easily create address labels for flyers, name labels for discs & notebooks, and form letters with progress reports.

We'll practice all this using our Windows 2000 Office software. But we haven't forgot that you need more: we'll give you handouts and show you how to access these Merge commands in all versions of MS Word (Macintosh Classic 2001, Mac OsX 2002 through Windows XP 2003).
